A Sportsman’s Weekend in Camden, SC

The Ultimate Guys’ Weekend Awaits

Ok, so you’ve been tapped to plan a Guys’ Weekend. Come to Camden and you come to the right place. Our area is chock-full of not-your-average-guy things to do – everyday. And most of our sporting attractions include on-site event venues to host a full-on private party.

Day 1

If Golf is your thing, start the day with a round or two. Camden Country Club is a private facility with a course designed by the renowned golf course designer/architect, Donald Ross. The par 70 course has just completed renovations.  Contact Club Pro Matt McCarley for membership and details.

Or consider play at Pine Creek Golf Course. Lovely. Challenging. 18-hole course features 6,373 yards of golf. The cool owners will help you put together your own “shotgun start” or whatever your pleasure.

Ready for eats, head to Downtown Camden and make the 19th hole drinks and dinner at Sam Kendall’s. Across the street is Steeplechase Sports Bar & Grill. Both restaurants are super watering holes and have “the game of the day” on the big screens.

Day 2

Did someone suggest hunting? For the serious hunters in your party, head north to Liberty Hill to Kershaw County’s 8,000 hunting preserve. Species that can be hunted are Deer, Turkey, Quail, and Pheasants. With elevation ranging from 721 feet to 1438 feet, you’ll also enjoy hiking and wildlife viewing.

Want something a little more organized? Sporting clays? The very best is Hermitage Farm Shooting Sports. Nestled deep in the woods just south of downtown, it boasts a FITASC designed sporting clays course, skeet shooting area, wobble trap and 5 stands, for a wide-range of shooting sport activities. It’s a natural habitat where you can learn, hone or simply enjoy superlative clay sports.

For dinner, try the newly opened B.Colson’s, a highly anticipated polished casual restaurant in Downtown Camden. Tender steaks, succulent seafood, and an extensive array of premium bourbons make this the guys gathering place. Or, head south to the award-winning Mill Pond Steakhouse, in historic Boykin. Classic offerings, with a Southern accent, are offered in a historic venue with scenic millpond views.

Day 3

Visit Carolina Motorsports Park – the road racing center of the Carolinas. CMP is home to the only purpose-built road course in the Carolinas. The 14-turn, 2.279-mile circuit was designed in 1998 by famed track designer, Alan Wilson. Also great karting takes place here. Just arrive and drive. Check their calendar for exciting performance racing.

And while you are north of town, you can visit the historic Camden Battlefield and Longleaf Pine Preserve. Hike the history as you learn about the battle that “turned the tide” in the Southern Campaign in the American Revolution.

Kayak Goodale State Park. Here you will enjoy some of the finest kayaking in South Carolina and embark on wilderness canoe trips. Admission is free. Make a reservation to rent kayaks.

Get some court time in at The Tennis Center of Camden & Pickleball Plaza – Located in Downtown Camden, the new $3.5 million public racquet complex is booking USTA sanctioned tournaments year ‘round. However, Tennis Pro Rick Martin can create clinics and design a tournament especially for your group.
