DIRECTOR OF TOURISM

JOB DUTIES

The Director of Tourism executes plans and programs to promote and encourage visitation to the area while overseeing all administrative, operating and programming functions of the organization. Prepares and adheres to the annual budget, secures grants and ensures compliance of the grant reimbursement policies, guidelines and eligibility.

Creates and executes the tourism promotion and integrated marketing plans, including, but not limited to, public relations, advertising, tourism brochures/visitor guides, trade shows, media orientation, social media, tourism website, mailings, familiarization tours and cooperative marketing projects.

Establishes and maintains ongoing effective communication and positive relationships with state and local government, state and local tourism partners (including South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT) and the South Carolina Area Tourism Regions (SCATR)), business leaders, travel trade professionals, convention and event planners, and with regional and national industry leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, personable, and has a proven track record of making connections and reaching goals. An emphasis will be placed on those who have worked with the promotion of tourism and those who have marketing and PR experience. Previous experience in a Convention and Visitors Bureau or Destination Marketing Organization is highly desirable.

Excellent in communication (oral and written), and public speaking. Outstanding organization and leadership abilities. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general budget, financial reports, and government regulations. Ability to write grants, reports, business correspondence, presentations and department plans and procedures. Knowledge of tourism sales, marketing and public relations techniques. Self-starter with ability to work with others (including board, staff, industry partners, media contacts, advertising reps, volunteers, visitors, government officials, media).

1. Bachelor’s degree in advertising, marketing, hospitality and tourism, public relations or closely related field and 10 years of experience in advertising, marketing, hospitality and tourism, public relations or closely related field.

2. Knowledge of the tourism industry is mandatory, existing knowledge of South Carolina and the City of Camden is considered a plus.

3. Experience with policies and procedures, organization and functions of a Tourism Department.

4. Experience working with boards or multiple stakeholder groups, including local elected officials.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

MINIMUM TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, and QUALIFICATIONS

Requires experience as a PIO or similar role. BS or BA in Public Relations, Communications, or related field.

Requires the ability to read and prepare a variety of documents and reports using the proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar. Has the ability to speak with co-workers and the general public with poise, voice control and confidence. Must be able to speak effectively to large groups.

Should have strong communication ability. Has the ability to deal with people in a variety of situations. Must be adaptable to performing under high stress when confronted with emergency situations.

 

FIREFIGHTER

Camden Fire Department is accepting applications for a full-time paid firefighter. Position comes with complete benefits package to include SC Police Officers Retirement, SC PEBA health, dental and life insurance, paid vacation and sick leave. PATROL OFFICER

Under general supervision, is responsible for the fair and equal enforcement of all local and state ordinances and laws. Ensures and participates in the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations to include investigating traffic accidents, ensuring safety of streets and sidewalks, directing traffic at various public events, operating various related equipment, etc. Reports to the Sergeant, Shift Supervisor.

PART-TIME INFORMATION SPECIALIST

The City of Camden is hiring a part-time (24 hours per week) Information Specialist for the Revolutionary War Visitor Center. The successful applicant will enjoy interacting with the public and will assist staff with social media, events, and school tours. This role requires someone who is passionate about history and can effectively engage visitors by providing information about the Revolutionary War and the exhibits at the center. Additionally, the candidate will help manage social media content, assist with event coordination, and support school tours. The position requires availability to work weekends and some holidays. BUILDING OFFICIAL

The City of Camden is seeking an experienced Building Official to join our team. This position involves reviewing plans and conducting inspections of residential and commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with local Building, Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical Codes. The successful candidate will apply knowledge of city codes to daily tasks and meet all compliance and reporting requirements. Qualifications include a high school diploma (or equivalent) and at least 10 years of experience in construction or code enforcement, or a combination of education and experience. Certification from the South Carolina Building Codes Council and a valid driver’s license are required. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of building codes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently. This position also requires physical capability to perform tasks involving walking, standing, and lifting 20-50 pounds.
