Multiple community organizations will gather, alongside community officials and student representatives from across Kershaw County, to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday during the 4th annual MLK Unity Day Celebration on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025.
The celebration will kick off at 11 a.m. with a gathering at the African American Cultural Center of Camden, located at 517 York St. Following the gathering, attendees will proceed with a commemorative march at 11:30 a.m., ending at Camden City Hall, 1000 Lyttleton St., where the celebration program will commence at noon. This year’s theme is “Moving Forward in Love and Unity.”
The event is organized each year by the Concerned Citizens of Kershaw County (CCKC), in partnership with the Camden-Kershaw County Branch of the NAACP, Unity in the Community, Concerned Clergy of Kershaw County, the African American Cultural Center of Camden, and the City of Camden.
“This is a special day for us to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy,” CCKC Chair Rev. Rosalind Watson said. “And we look forward to the year ahead of us, reaffirming our commitment to make our community a better place for everyone to live.”
Program participants will feature student speakers, the choruses of Blaney Elementary School and Camden Middle School, and the Camden Military Academy Color Guard.
