Thursday Talk: Bloody Bill Cunningham, South Carolina’s Revolutionary War Mass Murderer

Rev. Paul Wood takes the audience through the 1781 “Bloody Scout” mission led by Revolutionary War Loyalist William “Bloody Bill” Cunningham. No one has murdered more South Carolinians. Rev. Wood’s research and new biography of Cunningham allow him to explain what drove Cunningham and his men to kill unarmed men and to destroy dozens of farms and mills. We will learn how his Loyalist militia could kill dozens of people in only a few weeks’ time and learn how General Andrew Pickens brought the killing spree to a belated conclusion. We will sort fact from fiction and look at the circumstances of his mysterious death at age 29. Join us for an illuminating evening about our state’s foremost murderer.
