DESCRIPTION:Irish Fest Camden returns for the eighth straight year\, culminating with the grand celebration on Saturday\, March 2\, 2024 at Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site.\nThe event is a non-profit entity with proceeds benefitting Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Camden. Nearly 200 members of the church and community annually volunteer their time to work the festival.\nA portion of the proceeds will also be distributed to various local non-profit entities.\nThroughout the week of the festival\, Camden businesses are invited to help join in the festivities by decorating their storefronts in an Irish theme. A committee will visit the locations with the winner receiving a unique award.\nHere is a listing of the week’s festivities:\n* Returning to the festivities is the Friday night Pub Crawl on Friday\, March 1. The evening is a night of live music at various venues in Camden from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. A complete list of participating venues and performers will be forthcoming.\n* One of the most popular events of the festival is the seventh annual Lucky Leprechaun 5K race/walk to be run at 8 a.m. on Saturday\, March 2 at the Town Green in Camden. Registration is currently taking place online at: runsignup.com/Race/SC/Camden/LuckyLeprechaunSC5K.\n* The week of festivities leads up to the grand celebration at Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site. The celebration begins at 10 a.m. and commences at 5 p.m.\nThe day-long\, family friendly event features food and beverage vendors spread through the expansive grounds including an authentic Irish pub featuring Shepherd’s Pie. The Highland Games\, a staple of the festival since its start\, brings together athletes from throughout the Southeast to compete in such events as the open stone throw\, the Braemer Stone throw\, the Sheaf and the light and heavy hammer toss have piqued the interest of festival-goers\, many of whom are getting their first look at these unique athletic events.\nExperience live Celtic music on three stages\, featuring headliner Syr\, a Celtic folk rock band from Columbia\, SC.  Enjoy other international artists from Ireland and Canada\, Irish dancing\, bagpipes and drums.\nKids will have a blast in the two-acre Kids Zone with inflatables\, face painting\, and the craft tent. Over 100 vendors will meet your retail therapy needs. Adults and children alike will enjoy the majestic Irish Gypsy Vanner horses and the Irish Wolfhounds’ “Kiss Me I’m Irish” booth.\nIndulge in delicious festival treats from more than 40 vendors in the food truck arena. Wet your whistle at the Irish whiskey tasting tent or with a variety of Irish brews or green beer. Enjoy the Irish Pub tent serving up hot shepherd’s pie and live pub music.\nFor the second straight year\, hurling teams — the national sport of Ireland — from throughout the southeast will gather in Camden to compete for the Irish Fest Camden Cup.\nAdmission into the main event it $20 for adults and $8 for children ages two through 12 and free for infants a year old and younger. Join our Homeschool Day with a new topic each month! \nOnce a month\, the Rev War Center will offer a free homeschool educational day where small school groups can come together and experience one of the educational programs offered by the Center. A minimum of ten students will be needed to host these educational programs\, if the minimum is not met then parents will be notified a week prior that the program will be canceled. \nFor parents with scholars of multiple ages\, don’t fret. Children 7 years old or under will be given a fun coloring and activity packet to complete off to the side so the whole family can enjoy the day. \nMarch: Revolutionary Medicine & Diseases \nStep into the surgery\, diagnose and treat patients from a battle or even sick prisoners of war during the American Revolution in South Carolina. Will a limb need to be amputated? What is the treatment for a fever and rash all over the body? Come be a physician’s apprentice for a day and learn all about 18th century medical practices and how far medicine has come since the American Revolution.

SUMMARY:Camden's Parlor Talk: Prof. Melissa Stuckey on Rosenwald Schools in SC
DESCRIPTION:Rosenwald Schools were built for African American students through a philanthropic partnership between Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington. These schools were built throughout South Carolina as state-of-the-art educational facilities in the early 1900s (1912-1923). The schools provided education\, improved social mobility\, and vastly increased college attendance\, setting the stage for the civil rights movement. \nThere were nearly 500 Rosenwald schools built in South Carolina\, but due to development\, sprawl\, and neglect\, only 40 remain standing in various states of repair. \nJoin us as we host USC Professor Melissa Stuckey\, who will share the history and role that the Rosenwald schools played in South Carolina.

DESCRIPTION:Spring is here once again\, and with it comes the promise of new life. That couldn’t be more true than on our farm as we welcome lambs\, chicks\, kids\, and more with our spring event! Come experience life on a working farm at Old McCaskill’s Farm’s 14th Annual Sheep Shearing Day presented by Connell Law Firm on Saturday\, March 23 from 10am – 5pm. \nSheep Shearing Day presented by Connell Law Firm is a family-friendly event where we have the opportunity to\nintroduce our community to the joys of nature and farm living. Enjoy live music and watch the professionals shear our\nsheep of their long winter wool using the oldest method of shearing. We’ll also have local knitters\, spinners\, weavers\,\nand felters showcasing how wool goes “from sheep to shawl”. \nSee a working sawmill in action\, watch a blacksmith at work\, and check out Border Collie demos. There are also\nhorseback rides and hay rides around the farm. \nVisitors can also check out our award-wining farm store and shop a wide selection of meats; jams\, jellies\, and picked\nvegetables; and wool products like blankets and scarves. We make\, grow\, and raise most of what we sell in the store. And\nwhat doesn’t come from our farm\, we source locally – like soap from Becky’s Soap Shop in Camden\, Bee Well honey from\nPickens\, and Clemson blue cheese. \n“We are thrilled to once again welcome the community to our farm and explore what life on a working farm is like\,” said\nowner\, Kathy McCaskill. “’Ewe’ don’t want to miss out on this year’s Sheep Shearing Day event!” \nTickets are $8\, and children 2 and under are free. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 89th running of The Carolina Cup Races on March 30\, 2024! \nWe offer a variety of ticketing options to accommodate a perfect day at the races! General Admission tickets allow entry to the race course and areas including Reserved Tailgating\, Paddock Shoppes and Vendor Village. Reserved tailgating areas are as follows: Front Row\, Infield\, East Rail\, West Rail and Restricted. Larger group reservations can be accommodated by The Meadow. The Grandstand is our only reserved seating area available for purchase. \nIf you are looking for an all-inclusive luncheon option\, we offer three options including The Skyline Club\, The Post & Paddock and The Turf Club.
