This year’s theme is “His Dream Is Ours.” \nThe event is organized each year by the Concerned Citizens of Kershaw County (CCKC)\, in partnership with the Camden-Kershaw County Branch of the NAACP\, Unity in the Community\, Concerned Clergy of Kershaw County\, the African American Cultural Center of Camden\, and the City of Camden. \nAttendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for the program at City Hall. They have sung the national anthem at Chicago Bulls and Duke Basketball games\, showcased themselves before the Queen of Jordan\, and even opened for Ben Folds in 2009 and The Band Perry in 2015. Through the generosity of Bob Sheheen\, we are thrilled to welcome them back to Wood Auditorium! \nIf you’ve never attended a prior performance by The Pitchforks\, you’ll soon discover the talent that has garnered the group such ongoing acclaim. Seven tracks have been featured on BOCA compilations since 1997\, and the group has twice won the CARA Award for Best Male Collegiate Album nationally with Bring It Back (2006) and Disconcert (2008). Their 2010 album\, All In\, was awarded runner-up for the same distinction and won Best Male Collegiate Song and Best Male Collegiate Arrangement with its hit single\, “Fireflies.” The Pitchforks’ most recent release\, Refraction (2012)\, another runner-up for Best Male Collegiate Album\, also scored a CARA Arrangement Award for its unique take on “Hallelujah.” \nWe look forward to seeing you there!

DESCRIPTION:Learn how systematic metal detection and GPS mapping are used to evaluate battlefields and interpret military movements and strategy \n\n\n\n\nDecoding Battlefields: Systematic Metal Detection\nAs archaeologists with the Northeast Archaeological Resources Program (NARP) of the National Park Service Dr. Bill Griswold and Joel Dukes have worked with a diverse range of conflict sites from New York to Virginia. The presentation will highlight many battlefield survey topics including: What is a systematic metal detection project? When is a metal detection investigation appropriate? Developing an appropriate research plan\, Preplanning\, Collection Strategies\, Survey Methods\, Data Management and understanding the role of environmental conditions. Several case studies that were successful in answering questions about battlefields will be discussed. \nThe event will be hosted at The Sheheen Colonial Artisan Center at Historic Camden. DESCRIPTION:Meet the American Veterans Archaeological Recovery team as they work to uncover new insights about the Battle of Camden \n\n\n\n\nMeet the Archaeologists! \nJoin us for a walking tour of the work being done by the American Veterans Archaeological Recovery team on the Camden Battlefield. \nYou’ll see the team in action using a systematic metal-detection survey to uncover artifacts on the battlefield. \nWalking tours are 30 minutes long and begin in the parking lot of the Camden Battlefield and Longleaf Pine Preserve. \nWhat to Know Before Registering: \nThis walk will be of easy to moderate difficulty on somewhat uneven terrain. \nVisitors should wear appropriate footwear to walk off-trail and be prepared for the weather conditions that day. As long as the conditions are safe for the team to work\, tours will be rain or shine. \nDepending on where the team is working\, it may take a10-15 minute walk to reach them. Bringing water is recommended. \nTickets are free\, but donations to the program are always greatly appreciated.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a Sunday afternoon filled with music and other talents.This concert will feature the talents of saxophonist Ken Cheeks. \nMr. Cheeks is a retired master teacher and contemporary saxophonists. He served 7 years as a music instructor at Benedict College\, Columbia\, SC\, followed by 27 years as an award winning Band Director at Alcorn Middle School\, Richland School District One\, Columbia South Carolina. Ken has performed throughout the southeast tri-state areas. Since retiring from public school teaching in May of 2014\, he continues his passion for education as a National Trainer with the Center for Teacher Effectiveness\, specializing in classroom management. Additionally\, he continues to teach instrumental music privately and performs as a solo artist and bandleader\, providing musical services that sets just the right mood for any occasion. \n“Artists in the Sanctuary” is a community-based outreach initiative under the sponsorship of the Camden Second Presbyterian Church\, in partnership with the Downtown Camden Cultural District\, and receives funding through the Althea James Truitt Memorial Arts Fund.
