Blending a variety of musical styles\, you’ll enjoy this fusion infectious pop and sophisticated jazz\, with catchy melodies that intertwine with enveloping chords that will get your attention and get you moving. \nAll concerts will be held on Thursdays\, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm\, weather permitting\, with a student or young musician performing the opening act and the headlining band taking the stage at 6:30 pm. Beer and wine are permitted on Town Green during the hours of the concerts. No glass containers are allowed on Town Green. In the event of relocation or cancelation due to weather\, notifications will be placed on the City’s website and Downtown Camden Cultural District social media channels. \nThe Blankets & Bands concert series is a partnership between the Downtown Camden Cultural District and the Arts Center of Kershaw County\, bringing free\, live music to the community during the spring and fall months.

SUMMARY:Camden Parlor Talk: The Cleveland School Fire
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Ann-Chadwell Humphries \nIn 1923\, on the last day in this two-story wooden school\, people packed the house for the school play. In the third act\, an oil lantern fell to the floor. Everything caught fire. Relatives threw children out windows\, slid others down outer walls. The seventy-seven souls who perished—only thirteen recognizable—were laid to rest in a mass grave behind Beulah Methodist Church. The Cleveland School Fire ignited the nation’s attention to fire prevention: codes\, drills\, alarms\, water\, non-combustible materials. A monument stands beside a replica of the country school in rural Kershaw County. Guests are welcome to bring memorabilia to the program.  \n \nThe mission of South Carolina Humanities is to enrich the cultural and intellectual lives of all South Carolinians. This not-for-profit organization presents and/or supports literary initiatives\, lectures\, exhibits\, festivals\, publications\, oral history projects\, videos and other humanities-based experiences that reach more than 250\,000 citizens annually. South Carolina Humanities receives funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities as well as corporate\, foundation and individual donors.  It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community leaders from throughout the state.

DESCRIPTION:Join family and friends\, bring your blanket or lawn chair\, bring a picnic dinner or grab some takeout and enjoy live music outdoors in Downtown Camden. \nOn Thursday\, May 8th be ready to move and groove to the sounds of the Randy Clay Band\, with DJ Chuck Carland. It will be an evening full of Motown\, Beach\, and Soul music\, with maybe a little Funk and Disco for fun. \nAll concerts will be held on Thursdays\, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm\, weather permitting\, with a student or young musician performing the opening act and the headlining band taking the stage at 6:30 pm. Beer and wine are permitted on Town Green during the hours of the concerts. No glass containers are allowed on Town Green. In the event of relocation or cancelation due to weather\, notifications will be placed on the City’s website and Downtown Camden Cultural District social media channels. \nThe Blankets & Bands concert series is a partnership between the Downtown Camden Cultural District and the Arts Center of Kershaw County\, bringing free\, live music to the community during the spring and fall months.

SUMMARY:Mental Health Crisis Forum: Critical Community Conversation on Mental Health in Kershaw County
DESCRIPTION:This collaborative session will bring together key stakeholders from across our community\, including Sheriff Boan\, with the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department\, Judge Branham\, Kershaw County Probate Court Judge\, Jeffrey Ham\, the Executive Director of Mental Health for Santee-Lynches\, as well as representatives from the SC Department of Probation\, Parole and Pardon Services\, Camden Police Department\, s\, school district leadership\, detention center staff\, mental health professionals\, and community service providers. This will be an online streaming event from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page. \nOne of our primary focuses will be addressing the needs of individuals in Adult Protective Services who are currently cycling through systems without adequate support. By working together\, we can create more effective pathways to connect these vulnerable community members with appropriate resources. \nOur collective action can potentially improve outcomes for those in need while simultaneously reducing the burden on our law enforcement agencies\, allowing them to better focus on emergency response and community safety.

Attendees visiting Camden’s fine shops and eateries after the event will receive a discount or “perk” from participating Camden merchants and restaurants if they show their event programs.
