DESCRIPTION:Once a month\, the Rev War Center offers a free homeschool day where small school groups can come together and experience one of the educational programs offered by the Center. Near the musicians is a serene\, walled section for children from the Mayfield Children’s Home (now a private residence). Next to it is the Strangers Plot which gives unidentified people a beautiful resting place.\nVeterans from the late 1700s to present rest at Quaker Cemetery\, 713 Meeting Street in Camden. SUMMARY:The War Begins: The South Carolina Snow Campaign
DESCRIPTION:Join us on November 22 for a commemoration of the Snow Campaign of 1775.  Colonel Richard Richardson gathered patriot forces from across the Carolinas to march into the South Carolina backcountry to suppress those loyal to the King.  Known as the Snow Campaign due to the heavy snowfall the militia encountered that December\, this was the first major military operation in South Carolina. On December 22\, patriots won the Battle of the Great Cane Brake and quelled loyalists’ activities for three years. \nThe Revolutionary War Visitor Center hosts this 250th anniversary event. Our program features a teenager telling his mother why he is leaving home to fight for freedom and a dialogue between a patriot and a loyalist as they defend their choices to support the rebellion or remain loyal to King George III. Historian Durant Ashmore will interpret the participants\, routes\, and events of the Snow Campaign. Finally\, the audience will experience the campaign through the eyes and ears of Richard Richardson and Camden’s Joseph Kershaw. Afterwards\, Historic Camden’s Colonial Village will come alive with demonstrations of colonial life. \n

DESCRIPTION:Join the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Camden Cultural District as they celebrate “Plaid Friday” November 28th and Small Business Saturday® on November 29th. Participating small businesses in Camden and Kershaw County have added great items to this year’s Shop Small goodie bags\, which will be available to the first 100 shoppers who stop by Broad Street Park\, on the corner of Broad and Rutledge Streets in Downtown Camden between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm on Friday the 28th. \n“Plaid Friday” is an alternative to the commonly known “Black Friday” where independent business advocacy groups encourage their communities to bring back the time when shopping for friends and family was a pleasurable leisurely activity.  It is celebrated throughout the nation as part of the “Shop Indie Local” campaign. \nSmall Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses and communities across the country and is part of the larger Shop Small Movement. Founded by American Express in 2010\, this day is celebrated each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving in the U.S. Since it started in 2010\, consumers have reported spending an estimated $200 billion at small businesses on the day.
